A Smart Way to Find Graphics from Free Sources All Over The World

It doesn’t matter what job you do that involved searching for graphics, you can quite easily end up regurgitating the same images repeatedly. Such is the nature of using free graphics, and rightly so because if you are just starting out, paying for a graphic designer can be an expensive task. Now the job of finding free graphics is limited because there are only a handful of sites out there that give you free downloads. What if we said there are ways you can get find a new crop of graphics?

Well, there is, and that is to download huge collections with 1,000s of graphics packs for all different niche areas. All you need to do is know where to look. There are several ways you can do this. First of all, get a VPN and start looking for foreign sites with free graphics available using foreign search terms for ‘free graphics’. Now you do not necessarily need the VPN, but it can help to give you localized results which are always helpful.

The second reason a VPN is useful is that it helps with your second strategy when hunting down free graphics packs. When we say ‘pack’, we are talking about huge zip files that are often 5, 10, 100 Gigabytes large collected by individuals that have worked in the graphic design or marketing industry for many years. They have kindly packaged together all the ‘paid images’ from well-known websites that charge a premium before you can get a copy of an image free of the site’s watermark or logo.

Where can you find these huge image packages?

You will need to use a torrentz software program, but before you do, make sure you protect your device. That safe download area will not allow files to transfer to your computer until it has been deemed safe and free of malware and viruses.

Next, and also very important, you will need a VPN. VPNs are recommended whenever you connect to a torrentz network for several reasons. First and foremost, your ISP may not allow connections to torrent and end up shutting your connection down. Some ISPs will go as far as shutting down the ports that allow you to connect to torrent sites which they will not reverse, but a VPN connects to an external server with these ports open, so you can freely download torrents.

Lastly, as some of these graphics’ packages can be up to 100Gb in size, your connection will be open for quite some time inviting online intruders to test weaknesses in your connection. As your connection is always on, you will provide them with a target that is guaranteed to be turned on. Now the last thing you want is for someone to be able to open a gateway to your files.

Getting the images is not exactly free because you need to pay a monthly VPN and AV fee, and quite possibly more monthly fees for a decent piece of torrent software, but the monthly costs you pay for these three components is far less than it would cost to gain access to such as a large number of images that as near as dammit allows you to build up an unlimited collections of graphics.

Ultrasound Can Help Improve Strength of 3D-Printed Metals

Scientists from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) discovered that ultrasonic exposure during 3D printing by Direct Laser Deposition allows obtaining high-strength metal products and even adjust the mechanical characteristics of individual sections.

The idea of ultrasonic exposure is borrowed to some extent from the powder metal industry: powder materials are often compacted before molding using ultrasonic vibrations. The Australian team conducted experiments on ultrasonic compaction right during 3D printing: the idea was not to compact the original powder but to change the microstructure of the resulting products.

The researchers point out that products produced by laser sintering of metal powders are notable for anisotropy — they consist of rather large, elongated crystals, which leads to a decrease in strength and increases the risk of cracking during printing. When the sintered material is exposed to ultrasonic waves, a stronger and denser microstructure is formed with smaller and equiaxed crystals. The scientists tested the idea on the directed energy deposition (DED) technology, where the powder is sprayed onto the substrate by a gas jet and selectively sintered with a laser emitter. The only difference was that a sonotrode and a 500-watt piezoelectric сonverter with a 20 kHz oscillation frequency were connected to the substrate.

The main material of the research was Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy powder. During the experiments, the team managed to increase the creep limit and strength by 12%. For the sake of the experiment’s purity and proof of the general applicability of the method, the experiments were repeated with the heat-resistant nickel-chrome Inconel 625 alloy, with similar results. Interestingly enough, the method allows you to create products with a functionally-graded structure, that is, to adjust the strength characteristics of individual sections of printed products using selective ultrasonic exposure.

Although we used a titanium alloy and a nickel-based superalloy, we expect that the method can be applied to other commercial metals, such as stainless steels, aluminum alloys, and cobalt alloys,” – explains professor Ma Qian.“

Scientists believe that the method will be effective not only in conjunction with the technology of direct laser deposition of metal powders but also when working with rod-shaped materials. But there are also limitations: ultrasound can disrupt the distribution of powder in selective laser sintering or melt (DMLS and SLM), so for these methods, it is most likely that focused exposure is required directly on the sintered/fused areas.
